We rent an independent house - not just an apartment - for your holidays in one of the most beautiful places you can imagine, in the isle of Korcula (Dalmatia, Croatia). The house is 10 mt. from the seaside, in an inlet protected from wind and sea, in a quiet place 6 km. from Vela Luka.

The Bay "Gradina"

Isle of Korcula The Island of Korcula

Half way between Split and Dubrovnik, the isle of Korcula is rich in history and nature.
Thanks to the North-West wind, the island has a wonderful climate in every season, especially on the western side. It seldom rains, even in intermediate seasons.
The local cooking, essentially based on fish, is delicious and of high standard and so are the olive oil and red and white wine.
The island is connected to Italy with weekly ferries from Venice, Ancona, Pescara and Bari. The connections with Split are guaranteed by daily ferries and hydrofoils.
Vela Luka Vela Luka

Vela Luka lies on the western coast of the island and has a natural port in a 9 km. deep inlet, which protects it from the open sea and offers a safe anchorage to boats.
The surroundings of Vela Luka are fascinating. The coast is splendid and uncontaminated. There are places of great archeological interest like excavations and prehistorical caves.
Therapeutic mud sediments have been discovered and a centre for the cure of rheumatic and gynaecological diseases has been created.
Korcula - St. Marc Cathedral Korcula - St. Marc Cathedral

The town of Korcula, on the side of the island towards land, testifies with its aspect the great history it took part in.
The town has a medieval origin and has 270 old houses, many of which adorned with gothic and renaissance portals, mullioned two and three light windows, balconies, galleries, elegant corbels and crests.
The Cathedral took 150 years to be built by italian and local masters and stone cutters. Of particular artistic value are the tabernacle of the high altar, the altar piece by Tintoretto, the Holy Trinity of the apse in the southern aisle by the venetian painter L. Bassano, the byzantine icon of the Virgin and the great Annunciation by Tintoretto.
Near the town, on the island of Badija, there is the Franciscan Monastery with a splendid church.
In summer there are musical and folkloristic happenings in the various towns of the island; in Korcula a famous tournament called the
Moresque is represented every year.
Gradina - The house Gradina - The house

The house, 6 km. from Vela Luka, is completely independent; it lies among olive-trees in a privileged position at the centre of a bay, 10 metres from the sea. Thanks to the North-West wind, this part of the island is always ventilated, but never excessively.
There are two roof-gardens with olive, orange, lemon, medlar trees, oleanders and rosemary.
There are no car routes nearby: cars are left at a 100 metres distance.
There are splendid walks you can make in the woods; at a short distance, on the
Glavica (cape) of St. Ivan, a small isle connected to the mainland by a bridge, there is a small medieval church from which one can enjoy a breath taking view.
In front of the house there are two islets easily reached also swimming.
